Exosomes are small (30-100 nm) secreted extracellular microvesicles involved in the transport of bioactive molecules between cells. Exosome-based research is rapidly evolving in many fields of study given the growing understanding that these microvesicles exert influence through the delivery of mRNA, microRNA and proteins. Exciting new findings have implicated exosomes in cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune syndromes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Exosome isolation is particularly tedious, requiring several rounds of differential centrifugation and a density gradient centrifugation step to obtain highly pure vesicles. Downstream challenges involve a standardized method for genetic profiling of encapsulated miRNA. Labplan provide improved and more efficient isolation and characterization protocol for exosome researchers.
